At the point of mass transition I homed in on one signature and locked it in. Patrick. Within our dual form, Three and I held Patrick’s signature captive. If he wanted Stasis for himself so much, he could spend an eternity in here with us. Locked down with no abilities. Humanity would be better off without him.
A fraction of a second later, the particles inside the accelerator crashed into each other with no effect whatsoever.
“What happened?” I asked, “Did the experiment fail?”
No. There was no experiment.
“What do you mean?”
Stasis cannot be opened or closed. It is a circle. Eric thought he understood, but he was not even close.
“Then what did just happen?”
Nothing. Stasis. Status quo.
“Who are you?”
I am Stasis.
“What are you? Where did you come from?”
I am Stasis. I always have been and I always will be. They were not ready for Stasis. They will never be ready for Stasis. You are now part of Stasis. Patrick is now part of Stasis. Over time you will understand what Stasis is, but you will need to see it for yourself.
I knew that I was going to get nothing more out of it. It had been the ultimate deception. No one would ever know what Stasis really was. Humanity had been tested and deemed unworthy. Some things never change.
